School Based Pupil Services
Pupil Services and Attendance Field Coordinators
Four Pupil Services and Attendance (PSA) Field Coordinators are responsible for coordinating programs for the local districts and for supervising PSA and Diploma Project Counselors within each local district. Each Coordinator is also responsible for their local district's School Attendance Review Board (SARB). SARB is a State-mandated diversion program designed to assist students who exhibit attendance and/or behavior problems by bringing together school and community resources to assist and support families in an effort to keep students out of the juvenile justice system.
Local District 1 & 2: Rosalva Emerick (818) 654-3600
Local District 3 & 7: Pat Burt (323) 421-2892
Local District 4 & 5: Pat Jimenez (213) 241-1912
Local District 6 & 8: Dionne Ash (310) 354-3209
School-Based Pupil Services and Attendance Counselors
School-based PSA Counselors’ responsibilities include providing direct, individual, and family counseling; visiting students’ homes to exchange information and provide in-home counseling services; collaborating with school officials and community agencies; serving on, or coordinating, Student Success Teams; and empowering families and students by helping them understand and access appropriate public and private health and social services. Site based PSA Counselors have a leadership role in helping the school develop its Attendance Plan and Incentive Program to reach school and district targeted attendance improvement goals.
School-Based Diploma Project Counselors
School-based Diploma Project Counselors work directly with students and the appropriate school administrators, deans, counselors, nurses, teachers, parents, and community agencies to develop and implement individualized educational blueprints to ensure every student has the opportunity to earn a high school diploma. Their responsibilities include:
· Collaborating with feeder schools to identify at-risk students to provide them with intervention services upon enrollment
· Working closely with school staff to develop incentive programs for students at-risk of dropping out;
· Providing quarterly parent meetings to at-risk students and their parents to maintain an ongoing dialogue; and
· Partnering with school staff to recover students who appear on the LAUSD potential dropout lists
